Highlights of the Social Mission to Canada
September 23 to October 6, 2001

A delegation of eight Brazilians, including the Project's five social coordinators, a representative of Comunidade Solidária/UNISOL and two members of the Project’s management team visited social and environmental institutions in the Toronto, Waterloo and Ottawa areas in late September and early October 2001.   The group also received training in gender equity and attended a courses on conflict resolution.
 
The main purpose of the visit was to provide the Brazilians with a better perception of what the Canadian social community can offer to their country in terms of services and models.  The training sessions and courses were designed to build their capacity to deliver programs in these areas and improve the prospect of project result sustainability.

The delegation arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport on September 23, and departed from Ottawa MacDonald Cartier Airport on October 6, 2001. Taking part in the mission were:

The mission began with a full-day Steering Committee Meeting on Monday September 24th; this was an occasion for the General and State Coordinators to present updates on work in their respective pilot areas and to outline future plans.
